Deana Criess

Deana Criess Tolliver has taught Improvisation, Sketch Writing and Stand Up to budding comedians of all ages. She is a veteran instructor at ImprovBoston and has taught comedy and drama classes at numerous schools, colleges, festivals and camp programs including the nationally acclaimed Charles River Creative Arts Program. Deana is an instructor with the ImprovBoston Comedy Camps and a facilitator for ImprovBoston Communications, IB's corporate/executive training arm. Deana is the creator and lead facilitator for ImprovBoston's Anti-Bullying Program. She is also the former Director of Education at ImprovBoston and continues to enjoy sharing the art of comedy with anyone who will listen.

David Marino

David Marino has been writing, directing, teaching, and performing with ImprovBoston since 1997. Some of his directing credits include Agent Spy, Groaners & Boners, Archipelago, Center Mike, Lube! The Musical!, and the critically acclaimed Pirate Lives: The Musical! His improv focus is on strong cast connections, grounded characters, and environment work. David is currently a Project Manager for a Cambridge-based genome research laboratory.

Will Luera

Will Luera joined ImprovBoston in 1997 as a member of the Mainstage cast and in 2000 became the Artistic Director and director of the Mainstage cast. Will has taught classes around Boston, the US, Latin America and Asia. He has studied improvisation with ImprovOlympic, Second City, The Annoyance, The UCB, and Keith Johnstone. Will continues to direct at ImprovBoston, but also directs scripted theater around Boston.

Zach currently hustles around the clock as Managing Director of ImprovBoston. Zach has been performing, teaching and directing comedy for 20 years. Critically acclaimed by the Chicago Reader and Chicago Tribune for DUAL EXHAUST (Top 10 “Most Influential Comedy Duos of the Past Decade”) and THE BEATBOX (Critic’s Choice, Best Bet, Chicago’s “Top 5 Latenight Shows”), Zach has studied the art of comedy with Todd Stashwick (Burn Mahattan), Mick Napier and Susan Messing (Annoyance), Bob Dassie, Craig Cackowski and TJ Jagodowski (IO), Matt Besser (UCB), Amy Poehler (Parks & Rec), Michael Gelman (Second City), and with every student he teaches.

Dave Sawyer

Dave Sawyer is an instructor with the IB Comedy School and a member of the ImprovBoston Mainstage cast. Dave has been teaching at at ImprovBoston since 2006 and is currently the program coordinator for ImprovBoston's YAP workshops. He has taught long form and free-form improv workshops at festivals including the Toronto Improv Festival and the Santa Cruz Improv Festival. Dave has directed numerous shows at ImprovBoston and is currently the director of Ginsburg – a team at IB's Harold Night. His two-man sketch comedy show - Sawyer and Hurley – has been featured at Philly Sketchfest and the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival.

Shannon Connolly

Shannon has been teaching levels 101-601 of improv for the IB comedy school for the past three years. She is truly passionate about every level that the comedy school has to offer from teaching students in 101/201 the concept of agreement and furthering a scene, 301/401 her favorite format The Harold, to long form and free form shows in 501/601. Currently, Shannon has rejoined the ImprovBoston Mainstage and performs with Top Shelf’s longest running Harold Night team, Maxitor as well as her sketch/improv/musical show, Two Biddies with veteran improviser Misch Whittaker. Shannon also coaches indie teams on the side including the studio 40 cast and former students, Disco Basement. She would like to remind you to make good choices.

SKETCH 301

Sketch Writing 301  (Advanced Sketch Writing) Showtime!

This level is all about putting together a polished sketch show! By the end of eight weeks, you will have polished a show, cast it, rehearsed it, and put it up on stage. You will work together with your class and with guest performers/directors to put on a 45-minute sketch show. And it shall be brilliantly funny.

$195.00 per person. Maximum of 10 participants per class.

Pre-requisite Sketch Writing 101 & 201

Prerequisite: SKETCH 201

SKETCH 201

Sketch Writing 201 – Intermediate Strategies for Sketch Development: Want to take your sketches and your creative strategies to the next level? The second level of the program will introduce you to new ways to develop ideas and opportunities to write a wide variety of sketch styles. Sketch Writing 201 will hone skills like collaboration, revision, and writing topical humor.
 
Each session ends with a staged reading of student work.
 
$195.00 per person.
