Mike Descoteaux

Mike Descoteaux is the full time Artistic Director of ImprovBoston and former director of ImprovBoston's National Touring Company and Family Show. For over a decade, Mike has taught, directed, and facilitated workshops in improvisation, sketch, musical improv and comedic songwriting around the world. He created and led the celebrated Music Program at The Second City in Chicago, which includes a 6-term musical improvisation conservatory, songwriting courses, master classes, and over 60 musical workshops per term. In addition, he regularly taught in their improv and writing programs which serve over 2,000 students 6 terms per year. Mike has taught at Columbia College and as a guest artist at Northwestern University. He has created and led workshops for iO (formerly Improv Olypmic), The Chicago Improv Festival, the Magnet Theater, Sarasota Improv Fest, The Chicago Cultural Center, The Colorado Improv Fest, The Playground, Norwegian Cruise Line, Chicago Sketchfest, Northwestern University’s NHSI, and numerous other schools, theatre companies, and corporations. He has taught the creative process and varied applications of improvisation to thousands of kids, teens, and adults across the country, from anti-bullying workshops to creative problem solving intensives with Fortune 500 companies. Steve Sarro

Steve Sarro joined ImprovBoston as a music director in the spring of 2013, a role that allows him to unite his two lifelong passions for music and comedy. Steve is a classically trained pianist and a graduate of Berklee College of Music. His first major role in the theater and one of his proudest accomplishments was to serve as the very first music director for Face Off, working with the cast and director John Serpico to introduce improvised music to the fast-paced, high-energy weekly competitive improv show that he continues to remain a regular part of. In addition, he has served as music director for ImprovBoston's Mainstage and Family Show, as well as numerous showcase shows including Gorefest 2013, Downton IB, Magic: the Gathering: the Show, and most recently the Fourth of July-themed sketch showcase Comedy, America! Aside from his first love of improv music directing, he is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter, and is also actively involved in children's theater programs as a music director, writer and composer.

Steve Gilbane

STEPHEN GILBANE has been accompanying improv troupes and teaching improvisers to make up songs on the spot since joining ImprovBoston in 1992, when the troupe developed their signature longform improvised musical format. He was artistic director (1999-2005) of Musical Improv Company, an improvisational troupe that specialized in developing and performing full-length improvised musicals, and currently is music director of Hidden Falls, ImprovBoston’s house musical improv cast. He has composed music for nine of ImprovBoston’s annual Halloween scripted musical Gorefest productions, and co-written several short musicals and one full-length show (Showstopper! A High-Tech Musical, based on a startup company in the mid-1980’s). He was composer & co-lyricist for Pirate Lives, a full-length musical involving Noel Coward characters and pirates, that premiered in Boston in 2012.

Mike Descoteaux

Mike Descoteaux is the full time Artistic Director of ImprovBoston and former director of ImprovBoston's National Touring Company and Family Show. For over a decade, Mike has taught, directed, and facilitated workshops in improvisation, sketch, musical improv and comedic songwriting around the world. He created and led the celebrated Music Program at The Second City in Chicago, which includes a 6-term musical improvisation conservatory, songwriting courses, master classes, and over 60 musical workshops per term. In addition, he regularly taught in their improv and writing programs which serve over 2,000 students 6 terms per year. Mike has taught at Columbia College and as a guest artist at Northwestern University. He has created and led workshops for iO (formerly Improv Olypmic), The Chicago Improv Festival, the Magnet Theater, Sarasota Improv Fest, The Chicago Cultural Center, The Colorado Improv Fest, The Playground, Norwegian Cruise Line, Chicago Sketchfest, Northwestern University’s NHSI, and numerous other schools, theatre companies, and corporations. He has taught the creative process and varied applications of improvisation to thousands of kids, teens, and adults across the country, from anti-bullying workshops to creative problem solving intensives with Fortune 500 companies. Steve Gilbane

STEPHEN GILBANE has been accompanying improv troupes and teaching improvisers to make up songs on the spot since joining ImprovBoston in 1992, when the troupe developed their signature longform improvised musical format. He was artistic director (1999-2005) of Musical Improv Company, an improvisational troupe that specialized in developing and performing full-length improvised musicals, and currently is music director of Hidden Falls, ImprovBoston’s house musical improv cast. He has composed music for nine of ImprovBoston’s annual Halloween scripted musical Gorefest productions, and co-written several short musicals and one full-length show (Showstopper! A High-Tech Musical, based on a startup company in the mid-1980’s). He was composer & co-lyricist for Pirate Lives, a full-length musical involving Noel Coward characters and pirates, that premiered in Boston in 2012.

Steve Sarro

Steve Sarro joined ImprovBoston as a music director in the spring of 2013, a role that allows him to unite his two lifelong passions for music and comedy. Steve is a classically trained pianist and a graduate of Berklee College of Music. His first major role in the theater and one of his proudest accomplishments was to serve as the very first music director for Face Off, working with the cast and director John Serpico to introduce improvised music to the fast-paced, high-energy weekly competitive improv show that he continues to remain a regular part of. In addition, he has served as music director for ImprovBoston's Mainstage and Family Show, as well as numerous showcase shows including Gorefest 2013, Downton IB, Magic: the Gathering: the Show, and most recently the Fourth of July-themed sketch showcase Comedy, America! Aside from his first love of improv music directing, he is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter, and is also actively involved in children's theater programs as a music director, writer and composer.
