1.21 Jigowatts and ImprovBoston Step Up to Support Parkinson’s Research
Shortly after 1.21 Jigowatts: An Improvised Tribute to Back to the Future premiered at ImprovBoston on September 2nd, a lot of people have been emailing me links regarding the 2011 NIKE MAG.
What an amazing concept – Nike has produced limited-edition replicas of the futuristic high-tops that appeared in Back to the Future Part II and is auctioning them off, with the proceeds going to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Friends have asked the cast of Jigowatts what we thought about this as Back to the Future superfans, and we’ve decided to respond in a way we felt was especially appropriate:
· $2 of every ticket purchased to the Friday, September 16th performance of 1.21 Jigowatts: An Improvised Tribute to Back to the Future, will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
· We will collect donations for the Michael J. Fox Foundation before and after every Jigowatts performance. The show runs through October 14, 2011.
Thank you to Lori Strauss (a.k.a. Lorraine McFly) for the idea and her work with the ImprovBoston management team to make it a reality.
From the day I got on board to direct this show, I’ve referred to it as a “parody/tribute/labor of love.” 1.21 Jigowatts pulls people together to celebrate a love and common experience of Back to the Future – so naturally everyone involved with the production is proud to incorporate a show of support for all that Michael J. Fox has done to give back since his turn as Marty McFly. To be able to step up and join a demonstration of how the social energy of art can be leveraged to make a difference is very exciting.
So when you see 1.21 Jigowatts, please look for our donation buckets and consider donating; if you’re not able to attend, please visit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research to learn more about the great work they do and how you can support it.
