UPCOMING SHOW SCHEDULE & COMICS:

APRIL

Local comic Justin P Drew booked all the comics for April and here's what he had to say about each week's lineups!

Sunday, 4/5 @ 9PM: The Irregulars: Justin P Drew hosts AJ Hapenny, Ian von Steffen, Tricia Auld, John Knight, Steve Bix, Ben Quick, Pete Andrews and Tyler Gist

Following a local comedy scene in any city can get a little tedious once you realize that most shows are just a remix of the same couple dozen performers, oftentimes doing the same material you've heard again and again. For my first residency show I wanted to assemble a lineup that you are unlikely to watch anywhere else, featuring some newcomers along with a couple honest-to-god veterans of stand up comedy. They are from all-over, from the Massachusetts Cape to Syracuse to Arizona. For better or worse, you won't find a lineup quite like this anywhere else in Boston.

Sunday, 4/12 @ 9PMThe Maine Event: Justin P Drew hosts Phoebe Angle, Bryce Hanson, Jordan Handren-Seavey, Mark Turcotte, Ian Stuart, Connor McGrath, Doug Collins and Dennis Fogg

Boston is my current home but I lived in the great state of Maine for the majority of my life. My first time doing comedy was at a bar called Slainte in Portland, and to this day I still go back America's Ear (a term for Maine I just coined) to perform. There is a giant wealth of talent there, and for the second week of my residency I decided to honor my home state (and fall back plan in case I go broke here) by assembling a showcase of some of the finest stand ups to hail from Maine.

Sunday, 4/19 @ 9PM - If I Wasn't Me: A Character StudyJustin P Drew hosts, Jeff Young, Mark Gallagher as Tommy Falcon and Eriic Junkins, Nathan Burke as The Duke, Anthony Scibelli as Wally Ramone, Pat Barrett as MC Yung Homofobe, Bryce Hanson as America and Jere Pilapil as Penguwine the Male Stripper Penguin

In my opinion, the defining characteristic of the modern era of stand up comedy is honesty. Some of the best comedians right now are the ones that bare their souls onstage, the Louis CKs, the Aziz Ansaris and the Mike Birbiglias. But what can be even more fascinating to me is when a comedian opts to assume another identity entirely. They're essentially acting, playing a fictional character, but still need to connect with the audience in an authentic way, making their job a bit more difficult than the average stand up comedian's. These are a few comics that I've seen play characters over the years, oftentimes dropping in to the middle of otherwise "normal" comedy shows and crushing it partially because they're hilarious but partially because of the sheer novelty of watching somebody play someone else in a sea of people trying hard at being themselves. But what about when you remove that novelty? What if every performance on a particular show involves somebody playing a fictional character? For the third week of my residency I have assembled the oddest lineup of performers, every single person pretending to be somebody else. Let's see what happens!
