ComedyVacation for February 18-22, 2019!

$375/$500 w/Extra Care

Over 5 laugh-packed days, artists ages 8-17 explore the world of comedy with the experts at ImprovBoston. We dive into the foundation of improvisation and the fundamentals of standup. We delve into daily electives like storytelling, sketch, clowning and comedy writing for social media. All our exploration is rooted in Support, Trust, Risk-Taking, Confidence and Fun (ImprovBoston’s 5 Pillars). With three sections (ages 8-10, 11-13 and 14-17), we tailor our week-long journey to the age, creative development and comedic sensibilities of each artist. The week builds to a celebratory showcase of improv and standup in our main theater with lighting, live music, and of course an audience filled with friends and family.

No performance experience? No problem! We offer an exciting array of expertly crafted theater games, improvisational exercises, ensemble-building activities, formats for personal creative expression and performance opportunities that support our artists who are new to the stage. Our staff creates a welcoming, inclusive and confidence-boosting experience. As a nonprofit arts organization with over 35 years of supporting the community through laughter, we believe in the power of comedy to change lives.

Tons of performance experience? Bring it! ImprovBoston’s staff are comedy industry professionals. We are focused on helping our returning and veteran comedians step out of their comfort zones and step into a world of challenging new techniques. In addition to collaborating with our entire team of ComedyClinic instructors on improvisation and standup, each young artist picks an elective from our ever-changing daily offerings. The freedom of choice allows even our most experienced returning performers to follow what inspires them most, learn new skills and hone their comedic voice.

Join us for a week of laughing and learning, for new friendships, inspiration and over-the-top fun at New England’s most established comedy theater.

Danny Balel

Teaching Style: I believe in organic discovery, emotional commitment, and allowing yourself to be goofy onstage and off. My style reflects these three components. Through side coaching, targeted exercises, and the release of laughter my classes focus on breaking down inhibitions and trusting your instincts. It is my core belief that being silly is as useful as being in control.

Bio: Danny Balel has been teaching and performing for over ten years. He teaches Theater at Clark University, and he has taught in the public schools of Worcester, Boston, Cambridge, and beyond. In addition, Danny teaches at Improv Boston, everything from weekly classes, workshops, to birthday parties. Currently he is a member of Improv Boston's Touring Company and Mainstage. He also directs the Top Shelf team Ghost Light, The Greg Show: A one Man Improvised Extravaganza, and Something Wicked: Improvised Shakespearean Comedy. Danny has performed with Kevin Macdonald and Joe Bill, and has taken workshops with Mike Birbiglia, Liz Allen, and Susan Messing. He believes that improv should be playful, focused, and above all fun. He lives in Davis Square, Somerville, and enjoys candied yams, big dogs, and baking. Danny was also interviewed by Jimmy Carrane for the Improv Nerd podcast (http://jimmycarrane.com/podcasts/122-danny-balel/).
