Matthew J. McMahan

Matthew McMahan is a scholar, educator, and actor, who has been performing improv comedy for the last fifteen years. He has been featured in several casts at ImprovBoston, including Face Off and the Harold teams Neighbors, Bigfoot, and 54Forty. He also teaches the history of comedy as well as improvisation for the Emerson College Program in Comedic Arts. He has an MFA in Dramaturgy from Stony Brook University and a Ph.D. in Drama from Tufts University. He believes improvisation is one of the best tools to unlock a person’s individuality, to help them take risks, to trust their impulses, and to learn how to draw inspiration from the inspiration of others.
