Location: 620 Massachusetts Ave.
Instructor:

Laura Clark

Teaching Style: I encourage students to explore what you find funny - your comedic influences from stage and screen, as well as personal stories and everyday interactions. What are the comedic elements that provoke a gut reaction from you, and how do they pertain to the concepts in our curriculum? With each assignment, I invite you to consider the total experience of writing it. What came naturally to you as a writer, and where did you struggle? I want to help you recognize and develop your strengths, and get more comfortable and daring with your weaknesses.

Bio: Laura has been writing, performing and directing sketch comedy for 12 years. She was a sketch instructor and director of the comedy writing program at ImprovBoston from 2010-2012, as well as director and founding member of house sketch team The Dowry, which produced two featured Mainstage shows and the 2010 ImprovBoston Holiday Spectacular. Laura was a founding member of the sketch teams Animal Style and Redford at iO West in Los Angeles, as well as writer and director of the show Star Trolley Tours, which premiered at LA Sketchfest. Her one-person show, Unbadass, has been performed at the Women in Comedy Festival, the LA Scripted Comedy Festival, and ImprovBoston's Comedy Lab. Laura is a dog walker by day and strives to bring the same gentle-yet-firm training methods to her writing classes.
