Tara and Rance: Personal Feedback and Potential, SUN., 11/18, 1:30-3:30PM

Sunday, 11/18, 1:30PM-3:30PM
PRE-REQUISITE: Students must have completed Improv 301 or Higher to attend this workshop
Tara and Rance have been performing, teaching, and coaching for two decades each. Their years of experience is your benefit as they analyze your personal improv style of play and give feedback and guidance specifically for you - and as an added bonus, you will hear the feedback given to other students which allows for multiple improv epiphanies in one power workshop. This workshop is about working WITH you to figure out how your personal journey may be leading to your improvisational plateau, and maneuvering and growing through that moment.

About Tara DeFrancisco:

Tara DeFrancisco is a positive force & tastemaker throughout the artform. Awarded “Funniest Person in Chicago” by the Free Press, One to Watch in WCT, “25 Funniest Females” in Curve Magazine, and chosen for the illustrious list of Chicago Artists in New City. In addition to writing and performing, she teaches improv courses and workshops to people of all ages and backgrounds across the world – elementary & high schools, colleges, non-profits, and businesses as both an improv instructor and a professional AI Comedy Consultant.  She is a veteran performer of the stages and touring companies of iO Chicago, Second City Chicago, and ComedySportz - and she designed curriculum and taught for all three as well. Tara has been seen in several commercial campaigns and a few tv shows (LOGO tv), SAG movies, and commercial campaigns (Las Vegas, Crocs, SunTrust) here and there. Tara is also the Founder/President of The Improv Retreat, the largest sleepaway camp in North America for the artform hosted in Wisconsin (now in it’s 6th year!) and the co-owner and Artistic Director of new creative space The Nest Theatre in Columbus, Ohio, the only dedicated improv & training center in Ohio, beginning it’s third beautiful year, changing and cultivating the improvisational scene. She is most known at iO Chicago for her work in the cult classic defrancisCo (one stranger + Tara, names one of Chicago’s Best by the Tribune), with musical group The Deltones, and long-running much celebrated (and now touring!) harold team and family, Chaos Theory. She continues to teach for iO Chicago on the road year round, and on-site in the summers. When home at The Nest, Tara performs with friends in shows like ComedySportz CBus, Pandora’s Toolbox, and TRIO - live at the Melody Ranch. Tara is known worldwide for the critically-acclaimed HERE the (improvised) Musical with her partner Rance Rizzutto - called “Nothing Short of Genius” by NPR, which has now headlined in 21 countries and 70 cities globally so far, with residencies on The Nest Theatre & iO Chicago stages, and going strong. She absolutely loves this work and feels fortunate to meet so many artists, poets, and geniuses.

About Rance Rizzutto:

Rance began doing improv with ComedySportz in Portland as well as joining Portland’s longest running sketch comedy troupe, The Third Floor. Since moving to Chicago in 2003 he performed with ComedySportz Chicago, and Second City also hired him to perform improv and sketch with their theatrical division aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL). He’s performed sketch and improv all over the seas - Caribbean, Mediterranean, Atlantic Ocean, and in late 2009, the Pacific Ocean in Hawaii. Rance is well known for his work at iO Chicago on lauded team Chaos Theory (Saturday nights for almost a decade) and The DelTones (iO’s house musical team also on Saturdays). Rance currently teaches for iO, and has taught for ComedySportz and Second City in the past. One of his favorite things is meeting folks from all over the world in Chicago that study improvisation, and he’s been thrilled to help people grow. Best yet, in 2014 iO sent Tara and Rance to Europe to teach their 3-day intensives. In that time we also got to perform HERE in Estonia, Germany, Copenhagen, and Latvia. After years at iO Chicago performing with The Deltones and Chaos Theory on Saturday nights, (and of course HERE with Tara DeFrancisco), Tara and Rance moved to Columbus, OH to start The Nest Theatre! Columbus is now our home around work in Chicago & globally touring with #HEREtheMusical.
